How IoT stands for sustainability

by | Jan 23, 2020

The concept of sustainable development was first coined in a report by the UN in 1987 called “Common Future”. Although we know governments must play a crucial role in achieving and steering the goals of sustainable development, we also know that technology can move faster than law and policy and regulations. Government and private organizations already have the tools available with technologies stemming from big data, AI, predictive analytics, and IoT. Not only do these technologies have great potential in achieving a more sustainable world, but they also just make plain economic sense. In fact, these things often go hand in hand. Sustainability revolves around using our resources more efficiently and more intelligently, which should theoretically drive costs down - we just need to put in the initial R&D capital to polish these technologies and fit them to our needs.

In this article, Naveen Joshi, describes four use cases where IoT can maximize efficiency:
  • Smart Irrigation
  • Smart Lighting
  • Smart Mobility
  • Smart Garbage Bins

See how he breaks down each use case to explain how IoT can play a role.
